Chet Faker ‘s soul-infused electro-blues sound springs from Melbourne roots, but you might not say it sounds typically Australian, or that it would fit on a bill with Toro Y Moi and Washed Out as it will.
Murphy has literally produced an album that is floating through textural changes, faint guidelines of direction and relaxed instrumentation. This is the time of day chte this generation can wonder, after the club has shut and the suits are back on the streets, what it is all for. There are moments tracks such as ‘Terms and Conditions’ beg for that outside the box texture or break to emphasize the impact, but then, perhaps Faker always meant for this outing to pander not to any urge for a token thinkinb, to continue simmering away at its own pace.
Excellent review, and a fantastic release, would honestly rate the EP higher if there were more tracks, my only fault with it. His cover of the ’90s cult hit No Diggity by Blackstreet and Dr Thinking in textures chet faker is genius, a massive downtempo beat, those overheated keys again, his voice up a register and cracking beautifully under the strain.
